Salt Toothpaste

Picture

Make your own Tooth Cleaners from Natural Ingredients

You can use just the powder of Bi-carbonate of Soda to clean your teeth. Bi-carbonate of soda is good for getting rid of smells, cleaning and refreshing. Dip your damp toothbrush in bi-carb and scrub your teeth with it.

Salt can be used the same way. Use table salt or sea salt. The salt can also be mixed with bi-carb soda to clean and refresh your teeth. Xylitol is a natural sweetener made from corn or birch trees. It has been proven to be beneficial to getting rid of bacteria in the mouth. Xylitol is found in many chewing gums to rid the bacteria from the mouth and prevent cavities. Xylitol can be mixed with the salt and/or bi-carbonate of soda to make a better tasting cleanser for your mouth and teeth.

Natural Toothpastes are free of most chemicals

Natural Toothpaste Best for your Health

Natural things are good for us, much better than goods with chemicals in them. In these modern times we are surrounded by chemicals. They are in lots of foods we eat as well as the toiletries we use. Who would have thought that we would have to clean ourselves with chemicals? That just doesn’t make sense to me.

As the inside of the mouth is one of the fastest ways of absorbing anything into our body, it makes sense that anything we put in our mouth should be as pure as possible and this includes toothpaste.

My Toothpaste should be FREE from:

Make sure your toothpaste is free from salicylates, fluoride, artificial sweeteners for example saccharin, and sodium lauryl sulphate. Try to avoid anything with the words glycol, propylene, polyol.
Chemicals to avoid in toothpaste are

Saccharin – an artificial sweetener

Antimicrobials – alcohol or triclosan. These can result in antibiotic resistant bacteria

Chlorine dioxide – an industrial bleach

Sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) which is an industrial detergent and may cause allergies

Sodium lauryl sarcosinate is used as a foaming and cleansing agent.

Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) which is caustic soda. It is also an industrial detergent and drain cleaner

Salicylates which cause allergies. Aspirin is salicylic acid

PEG/PPG is polypropylene glycol which acts as a wetting agent. It is also in the substance used as a gel when having an ultrasound and is found in baby wipes etc.

Popular Natural Toothpastes

Natural Toothpaste

The most popular natural toothpastes I sell in my online stores are Propolis, Vicco, and Olive Leaf toothpastes.Today people are becoming increasingly aware of food they eat and the cleaning products they use on their body. With chemicals in the environment abounding since the 1950s, we are constantly surrounded by them. Today, more than ever before, cancer takes its toll on the community. It was a rarity in the 1930s to 1950s.
Commercial toothpaste is a product that has also been invaded by chemicals. It must make your teeth look whiter, It must kill the bacteria in your mouth and it must have plenty of froth and bubble. Then, of course it must come in attractive containers and sometimes the paste itself is even coloured, and be peppermint flavoured.
Well, I for one am prepared to go without most of this. I definitely don't want the chemicals, especially the dangerous ones. I don't need the froth and bubble. When was the last time that the air in a bubble of froth cleaned anything?

What I Look for in a Toothpaste

My preferences in a toothpaste are
  • It must help clean my teeth
  • It must not have chemicals
  • I prefer pastes without essential oils as many of them don't agree with me
  • I prefer the ingredients to be of a natural origin so I know what they are when I read their names.
  • I prefer to like the taste

How I found Out There was a Need for Natural Toothpaste

I sell a variety of things on Ebay. I started out selling plants, cutting and seeds from my garden. I have been into Natural Health products all my life and make my own Flower Essences, Creams, Herbal Tinctures and Homeopathic remedies.
After a few years with severe allergies and chemical sensitivities, I was buying Natural toothpaste from my supplier. I put some on my Ebay site along with my bottles and vials and suddenly the toothpaste became popular. As I say, I didn't set out to supply toothpaste. However if people need it I am happy to supply it.

Things that Pass through our Mouth

Picture

A Secret Cave

Our mouth is the secret hidey hole or cave where we put everything that goes into our body.

All our food passes through our mouth. This can be clean, green, food, organically grown food, lovingly home-cooked food, fresh fruit and salads or meat. It can be fast foods like pizza or MacDonalds or fish and chips.

It can be fried, fatty food or freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable smoothies. It can be rich cheesecake and chocolate or vegetables which have been sprayed with chemicals on the farms and again in the supermarkets to 'keep the bugs away' and 'keep them fresh'. It can be organic produce or chemical laden produce.

We can fill our mouth with smoke and chemical laden toothpastes, or we can use more natural toothpastes containing little or no chemicals.

Bad Breath

Is it any wonder we get bad breath sometimes? Bad breath is also called Halitosis. One of the causes for this can be from the bad bacteria in our mouth. Remember that the bad bacteria grows aroung our teeth and can invade our gums. It is then called Gingivitis. When we have gingivitis our gums bleed when we clean them. The gums can look pale or puffy and swollen. They can erode and leave the teeth exposed and all the more likely to become loose and fall out.

Stomatitis

This is the inflammation of the lining of the mouth including the cheeks, tongue and palette (roof) and floor of the mouth. It can cause redness and swelling.

Natural ways to ease Problems in the Mouth

Calendula is a very soothing flower and a natural plant used like a herb. It is very safe to use. The orange flowers can be made into a tea. This can be swilled around the mouth and then swallowed. Calendula tincture is stronger. This can be made into a mouth wash to swirl around the mouth. Buy Calendula at the Health food store.

Use natural Toothpastes and Toothbrushes

Use soft toothbrushes. Hard toothbrushes can damage the inside of the mouth,
damaging the gums and letting bacteria in.
Use natural toothbrushes. There are some available made out of bamboo. The have soft bristles.

Use a mix of salt and bi-carbonate of soda as a powder instead of toothpaste. Bi-carbonate of soda is a natural doedoriser and whitener. Salt is a natural disinfectant. You can mix Xylitol with this for a better flavour. Xylitol is a natural sweetener which has been proven to kill bacteria in the mouth. Sugar makes bacteria grow.

Be careful what you put in your mouth. Do not prod with toothpicks. Use floss instead.
Remember to clean your mouth and teeth after eating. If you have dentures, make sure to clean them regularly.
