Am I Susceptible to Chemicals?

Picture
Lots of household chemicals are harmful to your health
Everyone is susceptible to chemicals. Some people are affected by chemicals more than others. These people often have a lower immune system than others. People with a lower immune system include people who suffer from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, ME, CFIDS, Glandular Fever, repeated infections, allergies and chronic diseases.

Let's make a list of the places people work or jobs people do that can make them more susceptible to chemicals. I cannot list all of them so would be happy if you wanted to add to them.

Everyday Products containing chemicals
Most people use some form of chemical in their daily life without even realizing it. Some of these products are:
deodorants, shampoos and conditioner, makeup, dishwashing detergent, laundry detergent, air fresheners, toilet paper, floor cleaners, insect spray, garden sprays, polish for cars, petrol, lawn mower fuel, computer printers, ballpoint pens, textas, whiteboard markers.

As you can see, this is only a small list of things used in the home. There are chemicals you are subjected to whilst traveling in trains, cars and planes. Even when walking we breathe in the fumes of the cars that pass by. In the our place of work - the office or factory there are a miriad more chemicals we either touch or breathe in.

Everyday Products
Many of our everyday products are made from chemicals too. These include polyester pillows, sponge mattresses, doona fillers, carpets, plastic utensils used in the kitchen and even your comfy lounge chairs.

Our Cars are Made of Chemicals Too
Your car is also full of chemicals from the glue that hold lots of it together to the vinyl seat covers or the synthetic removable covers over the seats to the sponge rubber inside the seats. And don't forget the plastic dashboard, the lubricants containing chemicals and the all important petrol or gas your engine runs on.

If you are affected by chemicals, try to minimise them in your life.

Natural Supplements for Inflammation

Picture
The beautiful flower of the Aloe from my garden.

Relieving Inflammation

Science is now Proving the Knowledge

There are many natural supplements that can help relieve inflammation. These have been tried and tested over the centuries and increasingly studies have been done on them to prove the knowledge of these substances.

Many of these natural foods or medicines have other properties besides anti inflammatory power. They may be anti bacterial, anti-viral etc.

Lack of Side Effects

Because these natural medicines are made from the whole plant, they do not have the side effects that many Western medicines have. The plants that these natural substances come from have very many ingredients. There may be one that, if taken on its own would cause side effects. But Nature is wonderful, and in these plants that are helpful to us, it also puts other ingredients that will counter any side effects.

Patents for Natural Supplements

Plants cannot be patented. They come already made, given to us freely by Nature.

Pharmaceutical companies cannot make much money without a patent so they take out the one ingredient in the plant that they think is the beneficial one, and ignore the rest. Therefore, the medicines they make from the plants do not have the counter checks and balances.

Natural Plant Remedies

Some beneficial natural medicines that may help us with inflammation are as follows.

Olive Leaf
This is a natural NSAID, that is it has natural non-steroidal properties similar to Ibuprofen. It enhances the immune system. It has been clinically proven to help rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.

Aloe vera
Aloe Vera is a well known plant that is well proven for its beneficial effects. When taken internally it can help gastrointestinal inflammation and arthritis. It can also be applied to the skin to ease inflammation of the skin or arthritic pains. Aloe vera has all the essential glyconutrients for our body. This is why it is such a wonderful healer.

Tumeric
Tumeric root extract or Curcumin is a natural COX-2 inhibitor. It has similar anti-inflammatory effects to non-steroidal drugs but without the side effects. It can help arthritis and immune system disorders.

White Willow Bark
White willow bark eases pain and inflammation. It contains salicin. Aspro or Aspirin was made out of it but they did not use the whole ingredients (remember they couldn't patent it then). This remedy does not cause bleeding like Aspirin. It is good for arthritis and other pain.

I hope you find some of these can help you with inflammation and the pain resulting from it.

Cheers

Asthma and Tissue Salts

Picture

Tissue Salts to the Rescue

Mag  phos

Two Tissue salts that may help relieve asthma are Mag phos and Nat phos.
Mag phos (Magnesium phosphate) is one of the twelve essential minerals our bodies need. Mag phos eases spasms.

As mentioned in my last post about Magnesium, the bronchioles in the lungs, that is the airway passages in the lungs, go into spasms throughout an asthmatic episode. They become inflamed, go into spasms, and produce mucous trying to wash away the thing that is bothering them - it may be dust, smoke,  terpenes or some other substance.

Directions for taking Mag phos
Mag phos may help to ease the spasms so that you can breathe more easily. If your chest is tightening up, try some Mag phos. Take it at the first sign of spasms. Get in early. Stop the spasms before they get really bad. Take every 15 minutes for an hour. As the spasms ease, slow down the tablets.
Remember to take your prescription medicine if needed.

Nat phos
Nat phos
or Natrum phosphoricum may also ease asthma. It may help if your asthma is brought on by mould or by exercise. Exercise can be as simple as walking or talking. Yes, talking can bring on breathlessness in some people. It is a form of exercise of the vocal muscles.

Running or walking may bring on an asthma attack in some people. It does not have to be fast walking, it can also be slow walking, depending on your own personal makeup.

Depending on the brand, take 1-4 tablets as needed. The tablets should not be touched. Shake the tablet into the top of the bottle and tip it into your mouth from there. DO NOT SWALLOW THE TABLET/S. Suck them. Let them dissolve in your mouth. These tablets are like Homeopathy. They have the energy of the salt in the tablet. This is absorbed into the channels of energy that circulate from your mouth to other parts of the body.

Do not take them with tea or coffee or food. They work best in a clean empty mouth.

The most important thing for you to do is to TAKE YOUR NORMAL MEDICATION FOR ASTHMA. Tissue salts are a companion natural medicine that may help your body along with doctor's prescriptions. Remember, asthma can be dangerous.Treat it with caution.

Tissue salts or Cell salts, as I have mentioned before, are very safe to take.
They can be purchased in the health food store or chemist.

Clean Air and Insect Spray

Clean Air

Clean, clear air of good quality is important to me.
  • I like fresh air.
  • I like sea air.
  • I like forest air.
  • I like crisp, cool air.

I like the air in my house to be fresh and clean and free of chemicals. We live near the sea and have our windows and doors open most of the time.

How do Chemicals get into your Home?

You may wonder how chemicals can get into the air in your home.

Do you you use any of these products?
  • toilet freshener
  • air wick
  • room freshener, even the ones that send out a spray every 30 seconds
  • hairspray
  • underarm deodorant
  • cooking sprays
  • insect spray - surface or air
  • ant killer
  • kitchen cleaning sprays
  • oven cleaner
  • laundry detergent
  • laundry spray
  • shoe polish
  • dry cleaning
  • Glen 20
  • scented toilet paper
  • perfumed rubbish bags
  • those little blobs that stick onto the inside of the toilet
These and many more products are continually advertised to us on our televisions as products that we 'must have' to have acceptable homes. If we don't use them then we are not good housekeepers.

Insect Invasion

Recently some ants invaded my laundry. They were marching up the door jamb and around the windowsill. Usually I will get rid of them by other means like using boiling water or lemon aromatherapy oils to deter them.

Insect Spray

However they arrived on a day when I did not have much energy and I reached for a can of insect spray. This can of spray had lasted about five years so you can't accuse me of keeping the shops in business.

I gave a quick spray, much as I hate to kill off the little creatures. If they are outside I will leave them alone. But they should not come into my home.

The smell of the spray was overpowering. I opened the window and closed the inside door for the rest of the day. The next morning when I went into the laundry the smell was still overpowering.

Do you mean to tell me that the chemicals in that product would not affect me? It could kill the ants and blow flies. Surely it must be having an effect on me too.

Well, the can of spray was empty and it went into the recycling bin. Good riddance.

It's clean air for me!

No more chemicals.

Swollen Legs

Do You Suffer from Swollen or Tired Legs?
Legs can be tired, cramping or swollen

Many people have lots of problems with their legs. They may be
  • aching
  • tired
  • painful
  • swollen
  • itching

Legs can have
  • dry skin
  • varicose veins
  • swollen ankles
  • cramping ay night

Butcher's Broom

Butcher's Broom is a supplement that benefits the legs. It works by improving the circulation in the legs. The veins in the legs need to pump the blood in the legs back up to the heart. The little valves in the veins get pretty tired in some people and need some help.

Butcher's Broom helps to strengthen these veins. This means that the blood is sent back to the heart more quickly. The blood picks up oxygen from the lungs and then is able to carry more oxygen to the body.

Venous Insufficiency

This means that that there is not enough blood in the veins.

Symptoms of Venous Insufficiency

  • swelling legs
  • swelling ankles
  • itching skin
  • cramps in legs

Improving the Brain

Because of its effects on the veins and the blood, Butcher's Broom can also affect the brain bringing more oxygenated blood to it.

Warning

If you are taking any blood thinning medication or have serious problems with your legs, always get medical support before beginning taking this supplement.

Food for the Brain

  Eat for Your Brain

Picture
Did you know that you can eat certain foods to make your brain healthy? If your brain is healthy, it works better. If your brain works better, then you are smarter. Sounds good?

Here is a list of foods proven to benefit your brain - omega 3 fats, salmon, walnuts, fruit and vegetables especially including spinach, tomatoes, onions, blueberries and apples with their skin on, flax seed, chia, quinoa, barley and tumeric.

You know many of these and it is well worth getting to know some more.

Gluten Free Seeds

Chia and quinoa are two of my favourites. These are both gluten free. Chia is a seed that is full of Omega 3. Use ground or whole seeds. Add to your breakfast for a good start to the day. Chia can be added to gluten free products to help them stick together.

Chia is different to Chai. Chai is a warm milky tea with spices in it. Chai, the drink, originated in India. Chia, the seed is food for the brain.

Quinoa, pronounced keen-wa, is a favourite of mine. It is a very small seed. Use quinoa flakes as a breakfast cereal or add to soups or stews to thicken. It is very easy to use. Readily available in the health food section of the supermarket.

Foods to Avoid

Foods to avoid for brain health are trans fats, saturated fats, syrups and bleached flour. Bleached flour is white flour. Use whole grain flours, they are better for you. Syrups are full of sugar.

Start on your brain health now - eat something from this list each day!

Magnesium and Migraines

Picture
Migraines are not just a bad headache.

Migraines and Magnesium

I have written about magnesium helping asthma and leg cramps. Well this great mineral Magnesium can also help headaches and migraines.

Dr Alexander Mauskop MD who is director of the New York Headache Centre and Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology tells us that magnesium is also great for headaches of all varieties and especially for those hard to control migraines.

Migraines are SEVERE headaches that come with other symptoms. These symptoms vary from person to person but there is a group of common symptoms.

Some symptoms of Migraine are

  • throbbing or penetrating pain
  • pain on one side of the head
  • double vision
  • worse with light and noise

More symptoms of Migraine are

  • seeing flashing lights
  • pain lasts from hours to days
  • nausea and/or vomiting
  • slurred speech
Dr Mauskop suggests 300-400mg daily of magnesium. This can sometimes help other medications to work better.

Many people in our society are lacking in enough magnesium. There are many good reasons to supplement our diet.

Asthma and Magnesium

Picture
Homeopathic medicine is all natural

Magnesium

I have found that Homeopathic Magnesium phosphate generally known as Mag phos has eased my asthma remarkably.

Mag phos is a homeopathic remedy made from Magnesium. A homeopathic remedy is made very scientifically. There are different strengths or potencies for each remedy.

 Different strengths of Homeopathy medicines

6x strength or potency is the lowest generally accepted potency which is available to the general public in Health food stores in Australia.

In Australia higher potencies or strengths need to be dispensed by a homeopath. In some other countries these are more readily available.

Each higher potency actually has less of the original magnesium in it. By the time it gets to 12x potency there is actually nothing of the original substance in the remedy. Only the energy of the original substance is still held in the pillule or liquid. The little pills are called pillules.

As the potency gets stronger or higher, the energy contained in the pillules gets stronger or more refined. A homeopath is guided by his/her study to know which potency is best for each situation.

Annie's Asthma symptoms helped by Mag phos

Chest very wheezy, difficult breathing, worse breathing out, better for warm air, worse for cold air and wind. Breathing difficult when walking, worse going up an incline, worse fast walking, worse exercise, worse talking.

Remember to be guided by your health care professional. Asthma must be treated by a doctor as it can be serious. Complementary medicines are complementary.

Major benefits of Magnesium

Major benefits of Magnesium

Picture We NEED Magnesium in our body.

Magnesium is an essential mineral  that we need to keep our body healthy. There are a number of major minerals that we need and some minerals we need in only small amounts. These are called trace elements.

Major benefit from magnesium are:

  • It helps our heart, muscles and kidneys
  • It is a necessary component in the makeup of our bones helping to prevent osteoporosis.
  • Magnesium helps to transmit nerve impulses.
  • It is a good antispasmodic, that is, it helps prevent spasms in our body
  • It supports women during menopause and with PMS
  • Magnesium is a good antispasmodic. I have proven its benefits innumerable times for severe cramps in the legs. Taken as a homeopathic remedy it can bring quick relief.
  • It is also good taken this way for spasms of wheezing and asthma where the lungs constrict.

Diet

The best way to take any vitamin or mineral is as part of our food. This is why it is so important to eat well, especially with a variety of fruit and vegetables. Eating well does not mean eating a lot or eating expensive foods. It means selecting the food you need to benefit your body. Magnesium is found in nuts, especially almonds, in fish, whole grains and wheat germ and especially in dark green leafy vegetables.

MagnesiumSupplements

Most people in our western society today do not eat enough good foods. It is so easy to eat a variety of bad foods which have little nutrient value for us. Therefore it is a good idea to take magnesium as a supplement. Scientists have worked out how much magnesium each person needs. it is decided by their body weight.

Mag phos Tissue Salts

Other ways to take extra magnesium are by Cell Salts. These are also called Tissue Salts or Schuessler Cell Salts. These can be bought in the health food store. Magnesium Cell Salts, called Mag phos, are a safe and easy remedy to use for any spasms in the body eg sneezing, coughing, migraines, leg or stomach cramps, asthma.

Mag phos Tissue Salts can be bought as a tablet that is sucked, a cream to rub onto the affected part or as an oral spray.

Do not stop taking any medication you are on for these illnesses. You can safely add Cell Salts as needed.

Homeopathy

Homeopathic Mag phos is much stronger than Cell Salts. It can work very quickly to give great relief. It comes in different strengths or potencies. The lower strengths can sometimes be bought in a pharmacy or health food store. For higher strengths or potencies you need to contact your Homeopath or Naturopath.

Mag phos can be effective if the affected part is better from warmth. This means is a cramp better from a warm compress, or asthma better in warm air. If it is better from cold then homeopathic Mag phos will not work for you.

Mag phos is one of my all time favourite remedies.

Hay Fever Relief

Picture
Nat mur Cell Salts

Natural Hay Fever Relief

Natrum muriaticum or Nat mur for short is a wonderful, simple and effective natural remedy that helps relieve hay fever.

Here in Australia we are about to go into Spring. This is the time many flowers bloom and there is lots of pollen in the air. Also around the time of the equinox there is more wind. The equinox is when we experience equal day and night. This happens twice a year - at the third week in March and September every year. Leading up to this time the weather can become very windy. This can cause lots of sneezing and watery eyes  too, especially on the days of hot dry winds from the north.

Nat mur is a Cell salt. These can also be called Tissue salts or Bio-chemic salt. Our body is made up of 12 different salts or minerals. This is one of them. Each of these salts affects a different system in our body.

Nat mur affects the water in our body. It seeks to stabilise the moisture in our body, stopping it from getting too wet or too dry.
Nat mur is good for when we experience excessive moisture from hay fever.

Symptoms of Hay Fever are:

  • excessive sneezing
  • runny nose
  • watery eyes
  • irritability (who wouldn't be irritable with all these uncomfortable symptoms)
Nat mur can also help with sinus problems when there is excess moisture.

Skin Symptoms

Nat mur can also relieve blister type rashes on our skin. Watery blisters, eczema, and shingles may be helped or very dry, itchy skin for example in the creases of knees and elbows. Remember, Nat  mur is about regulating the water in our body, to stop it from being too dry or too moist. Eczema and allergies are common. It also helps with heatstroke.

Emotions

People who need Nat mur may also hold a lot of grief. It is also good for people who cry a lot, or who cannot cry at all. These people also hold resentment and wish to be alone.

Nat mur can be purchased as tablets or spray for under the tongue, or as a Homeopathic remedy.

Boosting our Glutathione Levels

NAC helps boost glutathione

How to boost Glutathione in our Body

The best way to improve the Glutathione levels in our body is is to take a pre-cursor. What on earth is that? Well if we could take glutathione, it doesn't have much effect on our body. It does not blend into our system. We need to take something that is the food for our body to make the glutathione for ourselves. This works well and improves the glutathione levels in our body.

N-acetyl-cysteine

This fancy chemical sounding word is the name for the substance needed by our body to enable it to make all the glutathione it wants. However we do not have to remember the big word. It is generally referred to as NAC. It's much easier to remember.
Our body is like a chemical factory making chemicals here and there depending on what it has to use and what the body needs.

What is NAC?

NAC is an amino acid that contains sulfur or sulphur. Same word, different spelling. N-acetyl-cysteine is more readily absorbed and is a powerful antioxidant and anti-viral.
Glutathione is important in the brain and blood and cells.

What is NAC used for?

Many scientific studies have shown that NAC is beneficial for

  • Depression
  • Bi-polar
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

It boosts the immune system. It is an anti-mucolytic which means it deters excess mucous in the body, especially the lungs. Therefore it has been used by patients with
Cystic Fibrosis.

So How do I Take NAC?

So, to boost your glutathione levels it is important to take NAC or N-acetyl-cysteiene.

NAC comes in powder or capsules. Be aware that it does have a strange smell but if it is doing you good then get used to the smell. If you take the powder, mix it in water.

Take 600mg - 3000mg daily depending on what is wrong with you and how much you need to boost your system. Take this in divided doses, that is, morning and night. It can have a remarkable effect.

Where do I Get it?

NAC is not well known and can be a bit difficult to find. Click the link below or try your local health food store or the internet for supplies

Popular Natural Toothpastes

Natural Toothpaste

The most popular natural toothpastes I sell in my online stores are Propolis, Vicco, and Olive Leaf toothpastes.Today people are becoming increasingly aware of food they eat and the cleaning products they use on their body. With chemicals in the environment abounding since the 1950s, we are constantly surrounded by them. Today, more than ever before, cancer takes its toll on the community. It was a rarity in the 1930s to 1950s.
Commercial toothpaste is a product that has also been invaded by chemicals. It must make your teeth look whiter, It must kill the bacteria in your mouth and it must have plenty of froth and bubble. Then, of course it must come in attractive containers and sometimes the paste itself is even coloured, and be peppermint flavoured.
Well, I for one am prepared to go without most of this. I definitely don't want the chemicals, especially the dangerous ones. I don't need the froth and bubble. When was the last time that the air in a bubble of froth cleaned anything?

What I Look for in a Toothpaste

My preferences in a toothpaste are
  • It must help clean my teeth
  • It must not have chemicals
  • I prefer pastes without essential oils as many of them don't agree with me
  • I prefer the ingredients to be of a natural origin so I know what they are when I read their names.
  • I prefer to like the taste

How I found Out There was a Need for Natural Toothpaste

I sell a variety of things on Ebay. I started out selling plants, cutting and seeds from my garden. I have been into Natural Health products all my life and make my own Flower Essences, Creams, Herbal Tinctures and Homeopathic remedies.
After a few years with severe allergies and chemical sensitivities, I was buying Natural toothpaste from my supplier. I put some on my Ebay site along with my bottles and vials and suddenly the toothpaste became popular. As I say, I didn't set out to supply toothpaste. However if people need it I am happy to supply it.

Things that Pass through our Mouth

Picture

A Secret Cave

Our mouth is the secret hidey hole or cave where we put everything that goes into our body.

All our food passes through our mouth. This can be clean, green, food, organically grown food, lovingly home-cooked food, fresh fruit and salads or meat. It can be fast foods like pizza or MacDonalds or fish and chips.

It can be fried, fatty food or freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable smoothies. It can be rich cheesecake and chocolate or vegetables which have been sprayed with chemicals on the farms and again in the supermarkets to 'keep the bugs away' and 'keep them fresh'. It can be organic produce or chemical laden produce.

We can fill our mouth with smoke and chemical laden toothpastes, or we can use more natural toothpastes containing little or no chemicals.

Bad Breath

Is it any wonder we get bad breath sometimes? Bad breath is also called Halitosis. One of the causes for this can be from the bad bacteria in our mouth. Remember that the bad bacteria grows aroung our teeth and can invade our gums. It is then called Gingivitis. When we have gingivitis our gums bleed when we clean them. The gums can look pale or puffy and swollen. They can erode and leave the teeth exposed and all the more likely to become loose and fall out.

Stomatitis

This is the inflammation of the lining of the mouth including the cheeks, tongue and palette (roof) and floor of the mouth. It can cause redness and swelling.

Natural ways to ease Problems in the Mouth

Calendula is a very soothing flower and a natural plant used like a herb. It is very safe to use. The orange flowers can be made into a tea. This can be swilled around the mouth and then swallowed. Calendula tincture is stronger. This can be made into a mouth wash to swirl around the mouth. Buy Calendula at the Health food store.

Use natural Toothpastes and Toothbrushes

Use soft toothbrushes. Hard toothbrushes can damage the inside of the mouth,
damaging the gums and letting bacteria in.
Use natural toothbrushes. There are some available made out of bamboo. The have soft bristles.

Use a mix of salt and bi-carbonate of soda as a powder instead of toothpaste. Bi-carbonate of soda is a natural doedoriser and whitener. Salt is a natural disinfectant. You can mix Xylitol with this for a better flavour. Xylitol is a natural sweetener which has been proven to kill bacteria in the mouth. Sugar makes bacteria grow.

Be careful what you put in your mouth. Do not prod with toothpicks. Use floss instead.
Remember to clean your mouth and teeth after eating. If you have dentures, make sure to clean them regularly.

How Tissue Salts Work

Picture
Tissue salts are a safe, natural medicine
 Tissue Salts or Cell Salts
Dr Schuessler, a medical doctor in Germany, promoted a new system of natural medicines in the early to mid 1800s. He believed that our body needed twelve tissue salts or cell salts. These were also sometimes called bio-chemic salts. The salts were needed by every cell in the body for the body to stay healthy. When something went wrong with the body, that is, it became ill, we were deficient in one or more of the salts. By providing it in minute doses, we could balance our body and bring it to health.

Tissue salts or cell salts are the basic chemical building  blocks found in the body.

Because of the benefits tissue salts have given people, they are still a very popular form of alternative medicine 200 years later, a form of natural medicine that people can safely use for themselves.

Micro doses of minerals are quickly absorbed through the mouth and these stimulate the body’s natural healing responses. They can be used to treat fever, coughs and colds, teething, muscle cramps, sore throat, skin problems and much more.

Reasons Why Tissue Salts are so Popular
Tissue salts are still very popular because

they are safe
they are good for general health problems
they are non-habit forming
they are absorbed rapidly
they are not expensive
they are easy to take
they are non-toxic
they can safely be used along prescription medicine
they can also be used during pregnancy
The name salts does not mean that there is any table salt in the product. It is a way of getting the minerals into a substance that is readily absorbed by the body. The subtlety, harmlessness and effectiveness of these preparations have been  clinically proven for well over two hundred years.

How to Take Tissue SaltsIt is best not to touch the tablets. Tip the required number of tablets into the lid of the bottle and tip them into the mouth. Do not swallow them yet. Let them dissolve in the mouth then swallow. It is important to let them dissolve in the mouth.  This is why the substances are in such fine micro doses.

The tablets are immediately absorbed through the saliva. The body does not need to break down the minerals and so they are readily available.

How much do I Take?
Illnesses can be acute or chronic. Acute illnesses come on, have a short life and the immune system of the body fights them off. Chronic illnesses last a long time, maybe months or years.

There are a few different brands of tissue salts. Be guided by how many tablets to take according to the brand. However, for acute illnesses, tablets can be taken every half an hour until relief is obtained. Usually no more than 6 doses daily. When relief comes, ease back to 3 or 4 doses daily until the illness is gone.

For chronic illness take 3 doses daily.

Different Names, Different Brands
Tissue salts are made by different companies. These include Martin & Pleasance, an Australian brand and New Era. New Era tablets melt in the mouth easily. Remember, when looking for these in the health food shop they can also be called Schuessler salts or Bio-chemic salts. All do the same thing - supply micro doses of minerals to the cells in the body.

Where to Buy Them
Tissue salts can be bought in health food stores. It is a good idea to have a range of these at home for when the children have a fever or sore throat, or you have a headache or aching and tired legs.

Warning
For serious problems always see a medical professional. These remedies are not meant to treat serious illnesses alone but you can combine them with prescription medicines.

Natural Clothing is Better for our Health
People with allergies and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS) and any immune system disorder are especially recommended to wear natural clothing.

Natural clothing means wearing clothes made from natural fibres, NOT man made fibres.

Natural Fibres
Natural fibres include cotton, wool, linen, hemp, bamboo, tencel, sisal, alpaca, cashmere, jute.

Natural fibres let the body ‘breathe’, that is, the air can penetrate these natural fibres. They also act to draw moisture away from the body. Bamboo and cotton are particularly good at this and bamboo is better than cotton.

Bamboo
Clothing made from bamboo is actually healthier for us than clothing made from cotton, that is unless you use cotton that is organically grown.

Bamboo is actually classed as a grass and grows up to 4 feet or about 1.2 metres a day. It is very hardy and does not need chemicals to kill off pests on it during its growth.

Cotton
Cotton, however, is grown using huge amount of pesticides. Some of these pesticides must still be attached to the cotton clothing we wear. This is why clothing made from organic cotton is much better for us. It is more expensive but better for our health.

However, wearing cotton clothing is better for us that wearing clothing made from synthetic materials.

Synthetic materials
Synthetic materials are made from petroleum oil based products. Plastics are made from these oil based products. Did you ever think that your synthetic clothing is a first cousin to plastic bags from the supermarket or the plastic drink bottles?

Annie’s story
Whenever Annie wore nylon stockings she nearly tore her hair out with irritation, especially when the weather was warm. They made her tense all over. As soon as she reached home, the first thing she did was take off her stockings and breathe a sigh of relief. Synthetic clothing did the same to her. It made her itch all over and she felt incredibly hot when she wore it. Annie soon realized that she might be able to get away with wearing something synthetic in the cooler months of the year, but just had to wear cotton clothing during the warmer months.

Also, whenever Annie wore synthetic clothing, she was full of static electricity. She would get shocks whenever she got out of the car and touched to door to close it. Annie felt in a much better state of mind when she wore clothing made out of natural fibres.
