Migraines are not just a bad headache.

Migraines and Magnesium

I have written about magnesium helping asthma and leg cramps. Well this great mineral Magnesium can also help headaches and migraines.

Dr Alexander Mauskop MD who is director of the New York Headache Centre and Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology tells us that magnesium is also great for headaches of all varieties and especially for those hard to control migraines.

Migraines are SEVERE headaches that come with other symptoms. These symptoms vary from person to person but there is a group of common symptoms.

Some symptoms of Migraine are

  • throbbing or penetrating pain
  • pain on one side of the head
  • double vision
  • worse with light and noise

More symptoms of Migraine are

  • seeing flashing lights
  • pain lasts from hours to days
  • nausea and/or vomiting
  • slurred speech
Dr Mauskop suggests 300-400mg daily of magnesium. This can sometimes help other medications to work better.

Many people in our society are lacking in enough magnesium. There are many good reasons to supplement our diet.
